Environment
The Dickerson
Group of Companies has their own Environment Policy Statement
and their aim has always been to work
with the environment and not against it. The Group is the
largest producer of recycled aggregates in East Anglia and
has
carried out a number of site reclamation schemes which have
brought despoiled land back to agricultural or amenity use.
Our
500-acre site at Waterbeach is a haven for wildlife,
particularly birds. The rough grazing on the restored landfill
is
home to a variety of plants and animals including bee
orchids,
barn owls, tawny owls, skylarks and the brown hare.
Two County Wildlife Site ditches run through the site,
attracting kingfishers and dragonflies, while the extensive
wetland
areas support numerous wintering birds; including
waders such as lapwing, redshank and oystercatchers.
A stork has also made the site its home. We have an extensive
programme of tree and hedgerow planting and a wetland
habitat creation and monitoring scheme to continue to
improve
the value of the site for the future.
